Description
Aurora Australis was found in 1938 in Lightning Ridge NSW and is still the world’s most valuable Black Opal! The stone itself was best regarded for its oval cut, perfect polish and harlequin pattern of a dominant green over peripheral primary colours against sheer black, representing our beloved southern lights, Aurora Australis.
This distinctive Joe Bananas classic Opal thatch weave came off the loom in early February 2021. True to form, the green is a tertiary effect visible only as the true opal's primary colours merge. Its weight is perfect for dressing up in cooler weather, emphasising dark-on-dark tones.
DRESS IT UP: Elegantly pair this jacket with a light to mid-blue shirt, like our Olympian Blue and black trousers.
DRESS IT DOWN: Dark denim and a bright yellow or coral Polo Shirt.
FUN FACT: This opal is on permanent display at the Altmann + Cherny showroom on Pitt Street in Sydney.
