The English word "tartan" is most likely derived from the French tartarin meaning "Tartar cloth". It has also been suggested that "tartan" may be derived from modern Scottish Gaelic tarsainn, meaning "across".  For us, it is the symbol of the clan-ship of our Scottish ancestors.

The 'Opal Tartan' Raw Silk Jacket sees two Joe Bananas worlds collide - with a throwback to his Scottish heritage and the national gemstone of his homeland of Australia, the opal - in a playful mix of colours woven in a check weave similar to that used in traditional tartan cloth.  Whilst most tartans were spun from wool, our jackets are handwoven from luxurious raw silk.  The pure nature of the raw silk results in a textured finish, adding an extra dimension to this already stunning textile.

Measuring Guide

All of our garments are hand cut and will have a small natural variance in size (+/-0.5")

We intend to make these to measure in most cases, so we will contact you for your measurements after purchase. These measurements are based on garments, not your body. Please measure your favourite shirt and compare to pick your closest size.

If you want to see a more complete guide to taking measurements, see our measuring guide here.
